Sri Sathya Sai Paediatric Orthopaedic Conference 2015, The Paediatric Lower Limb- Challenges, February 28th – March 1st, 2015 - Day 2
The second day of the Sri Sathya Sai Pediatric Orthopaedic Conference 2015 – The Pediatric Lower Limb – Challenges began with the demonstration of the two live surgeries.
Being a Pediatric Orthopaedic conference, the conference focused on ailments in the lower limbs of children. The topics include Pediatric lower limb trauma, Perthe’s disease, and knee and foot deformities in children.
There were 4 live surgical demonstrations by the experts in their respective fields of Paediatric Orthopaedics. The live surgeries were done on complex feet deformity, congenital dislocation of knee and two developmental diseases of hip. The cases were unique and challenging and immensely benefited the delegates. The discussions following the live surgical demonstrations were stimulating and interactions between the faculty and the delegates were outstanding.
The live demonstration was followed by “Pediatric Club Foot Symposium”. The symposium included lectures by Dr. Jayanth Sampath, Director of Bangalore Institute of Movement Research and Analysis, on Club foot- Management Guidelines and a lecture on the role of External fixation in ankle and foot deformities in children by Dr. Harshad Shah, Senior Professor and HoD Orthopaedics from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru.
In the post lunch session of the conference, Interesting Cases at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, were presented, which generated keen interest in the delegates and faculty alike.
The faculty was extremely impressed by the conference and also by the environment in which the conference was conducted.
Dr. Harshad Shah, Senior Professor and HoD , Orthopaedics M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru said that the conference was the best that he had ever attended in the entire world. “I have been to many conferences around the world, you have to pay through your nose to attend one, but here it is totally free and the content is of highest quality and everything is provided for. This is the best conference I have ever attended,” he said.
Dr. Vrisha Madhuri, Professor of Orthoapedics, Christian Medical College, Vellore, while praising the organization and content of the conference said that the conference has brought to fore the fact that there are several ways of treating the same ailment in Paediatric Orthopaedics and surgeons should be open towards them.
Dr. Ranganath C. consultant in Orthopaedics, BGS Global Hospital in his comments mentioned that a divine atmosphere pervades Puttaparthi, which made the conference very special. “We need to come here more often,” he said.
One of the delegates, Dr. Gurunath, from Government General Hospital, Vijayawada mentioned that it was a refreshing experience to be a part of the conference. “It was a privilege to witness the live surgeries at this conference. This is something we hardly see in any conference anywhere,” he said.
Delegates were also impressed by Bhagawan Baba’s philosophy of free healthcare to all. “The conference was of top notch quality and I was also amazed by the work being done in Bhagawan Baba’s hospital,” Dr. Niranjan a delegate from Bangalore said.
After the valedictory session the faculty and delegates visited the Sai Kulwant Hall to attend bhajans and Darshan
