Oculoplastics Simplified CME -2018
The department of Ophthalmology of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the topic of “Oculoplastics Simplified” on December 2, 2018 on the hospital premises.
Oculoplastics surgery, includes a wide variety of surgical procedures that deal with the orbit (eye socket), eyelids, tear ducts, and the face. It also deals with the reconstruction of the eye and associated structures. Being a topic, which encompasses a wide spectrum, the CME was an endeavor to simplify the subject with inputs being provided by top Oculoplastics surgeons from the country.
Faculty attending the conference included Dr. Santosh Honavar, Head Oculoplastics, Centre of Sight, Hyderabad, Dr. Roshmi Gupta, Senior Oculoplastics surgeon, Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore DR. Usha Singh, Senior Professor Ophthalmology, PGI Chandigarh and Dr. Lakshmi Mahesh, consultant Ophthalmology, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore among others.
Around 100 delegates from across India attended the conference.
The topics in the programme included ‘Eyelid Tumour and Management,” “Orbital floor fracture repair,”, Principles of socket reconstruction”, “Evaluation and surgical management of ptosis”. The highlight of the programme was a 3D video presentation on eye lid surgeries.
The inauguration of the programme was attended by the Trustee, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT), Sri R. J. Rathnakar, and Member Secretary, SSSCT, Sri G.S.R.C.V Prasada Rao.
Speaking on the occasion Sri Prasada Rao said Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was always keen that skills of the medical practitioners be upgraded from time to time and the periodic organization of the conferences and CMEs at the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram was a part of that endeavor. Elaborating about Bhagawan Baba’s philosophy of healthcare, Sri Prasada Rao said that Bhagawan Baba came to teach that all humans are divine. “It is therefore, imperative that people in the medical practice understand the follow this philosophy when providing treatment to patients” he said.
Dr. Gurumurthy, Director of SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram earlier in his welcome address mentioned that Bhagawan Baba established the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram in 1991 as a testimony to the fact that provision of healthcare is a service to the humanity and not a money making business. “This hospital serves as an example to the whole world that advanced medical care completely free of charge can be provided to all and everyone should take inspiration from this model set up by Bhagawan Baba,” Dr. Gurumurthy added.
After the end of the conference the delegates and the faculty members had the Samadhi Darshan of Bhagawan Baba in Prasanthi Nilayam Puttaparthi.
