Yoga Classes

In the early hours of this day, the "YOGA classes" for the benefit of the Prashanti Nilayam Ashramites and the devotees was initiated and inaugurated by Sri GSRCV Prasada Rao, Secretary of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, at the first floor,  above the North Indian Canteen.

In his inaugural brief address, he welcomed and thanked Prof Narayana Reddy, Prof of Economics Dept, and his team of faculty members of the SSSIHL, who responded his request for initiating YOGA SESSIONS in the Ashram, with tremendous enthusiasm, in such a shortest time. While appreciating the response of  the assembly of participants of different age groups, he exhorted that Yoga is not a simple therapeutic  exercise only but its ultimate  aim is to help Jeevatma to attain Paramathma. He persuaded the members to continue to attend the classes regularly, indicating that though there are books and videos to teach Yoga, these days, it would be the best to learn Yoga under the guidance of such able Yoga teachers, as each person has his own individual and constitutional problem and short comings, which could be addressed by the teachers on the spot.

The porgramme was attended by 41 Gents and 20 Ladies and they were duly guided by 5+1 instructors, while the programme was demonstrated by Prof Narayan Reddy.

The Simple Asanas, loosening exercises, Surya Namaskar, Kapalabhatti and Savasana were the first day lessons, which will be repeated in the ensuing classes also, so that the participants can master them well.

The session continued for one hour and twenty minutes and ended with Aarathi to Bhagwan Baba.

Following the programme, the participants, responded our Correspondent with encouraging demand and comments.

A few of them requested that the Yoga classes should be conducted two days consecutively, so that they could grasp and remember the exercises and practice them at home.  Otherwise, the learning process would be slow and over the period the participants would lose interest. Another, aged participant thanked  Bhagwan Baba for introducing  this Yoga session at their doorsteps in Prasanthi Nilayam free of cost, whereas, elsewhere, in the country, people pay heavily to learn Yoga.

Prof Reddy responded to some of their queries, by mentioning that the yoga teachers who have assembled there have learnt the Yoga from the first Yoga University of our country opened in Bangalore and they could raise the participants to very high level in Yoga, provided the latter show continued interest. Already, for the last 6 or 7 years, they are conducting the Yoga classes for the faculty and students of SSSIHL, very successfully. It was a great pleasure that they are able to conduct the same in the ashram and desired that the Ashramites make use of this opportunity. He added that his team could take classes for two continuous days, say on Saturdays and Sundays, if the organizers could accept for the same. He desired that the registration forms are duly filled in early, as the response on the opening day is highly appreciative.

“In Pathanjali Yoga it is said that we should exercise control over the senses and also achieve unity of the Senses.   It is the harmony of three – Thought, Word and Deed.  Therefore out of this unity, we will develop Purity; through Purity we will step into Divinity.  The moment we step into Divinity, the nemity will be sent away. Everything is accomplished by practice, which brings us to the level of feeling Divinity.  The Pathanjali Yoga Suthra confers the Divinity. This Yoga is not only meant for Rishis, Yogis and Renunciants, but also for every Human being, it is essential, with the Body.”
