Akhanda Bhajan 2014 commenced at 1800 hrs. this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam. Simultaneously, thousands of Sai Centres around the globe, spanning countries and continents, also would be initiating the commencement of the ‘spiritual exercise’ for Universal Peace, as per their respective national time, making it a true global affair.
Earlier, commencing the proceedings, Prof Kamaraju Anil Kumar addressed the august assembly, delivering a lucid rhetoric flow in Tel-Eng mix on the theme ‘Namasmarana’. Quoting Bhagawan’s ‘own’ composition, re-iterating how His Name will fill the entire world, every nook and corner of the globe, the erudite speaker, then divulged the astounding work being done by overseas devotees in spreading His Name and Message in various parts of the world. Speaking on the glory of His Name, S-A-I, and the effective transformation, it brings about in individual, social and global scene. The Professor then narrated some of the most beautiful stories from Bhagawan’s Divine discourses, illustrating the greater importance of God’s Name and Supreme Devotion.
Puttaparthi is the Main Tree, God’s Chosen Abode, where-from sprouted all branches, reiterated Prof Anil Kumar, reminiscing on the ‘Glory Of The Land That Did Unmatched Penance’ to win His Supreme Grace.
Akhanda Bhajan commenced at 1800 hrs., after a brief spell of Vedam that followed the 50 min speech.
Following the initial Ganesha invocation, when the theme bhajan “Akhanda Jyothi Jalao …Sai Mana Mandir Mein” echoed in Prasanthi, thousands upon thousands in the hall joined in chorus, immersing in nostalgic memoirs of the golden days, when Bhagawan would personally officiate the Akhanda Bhajan with His immediate Divine Presence.
“Of all the Sai programmes for promoting harmony and unity among the people of the world, nothing is so significant and far‑reaching as the observance of “Akhanda Bhajan “on a global scale, initiated by Bhagawan. It represents a unique attempt, at making people in every part of the world conscious of their Divine essence and to experience the sense of oneness spiritually”, observed veteran journalist of repute and former Editor of Sanathana Sarathi, Late Sri V.K. Narasimhan, writing on the event in the late eighties.
Reminiscing the beauty and subtlety of the marathon Bhajan Saga, one of the alumni of Bhagawan’s University, who has been blessed by Bhagawan to sing in His presence writes: "…And Akhanda Bhajans of yesteryear-s used to have Bhagawan’s ‘greater’ participation".
“Akhanda Bhajan was about to begin in a few minutes. Bhagawan entered the bhajan hall from the rear side and was slowly walking on the carpet towards the altar, where He had to light the “Akhanda Jyothi” to mark the commencement of the Bhajans. As He reached the altar, He noticed a glittering artificial garland placed around the neck of the Hanuman Idol by the side of His chair. One could see a frown on His face as He went close to the Idol, bent over the lamp placed by its side, removed the garland and dropped the same saying ARTIFICIAL. The message was clear. We all know that every act of Bhagawan has an inner meaning. We understood that Bhagawan was indirectly teaching us to sing Bhajans from the Heart and not as an Art. He says, whatever we do should be “Heartificial” and not Artificial.”
Bhajans would be continuing until tomorrow, Sunday, evening at 1800 hrs. when Mangala Arathi will be offered to Bhagawan marking the end of Akhanda Bhajan 2014. Following the students’ batch, throughout the night, different groups of devotees will be taking turns singing for Swami.
