Deepavali & Gujarati New Year Celebrations by Parthi Yathra Group of Gujarat Day - 2

Echoing the beauty of the Advent of the New Year, Gujarat - Saal Mubarak, devotees from Gujarat celebrated the Gujarati New Year with much ‘Sai-fervour’ in the Divine Presence today in Prasanthi Nilayam. This is the 13th year on the trot, the State is celebrating Deepavali and New Year in Prasanthi Nilayam.

At the outset, State President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations – Gujarat, Sri Manohar Trikarnad addressed the august assembly, wishing all Gujaratis present in Prasanthi as well from around the world a Happy New Year. The State President then presented a report on the activities of the SSSSO in the State.

A devotional song, a folk-dance and a drama presentation featured the cultural session that ensued next.

Commencing the proceedings, the Youth Girls from Vadodara propitiated Nava Durga as Shakthi Swarupini Sai Maa first, presenting “Raageshri”, a musical prayer seeking Bhakti, Shakti and Mukthi to one and all. Raageshri is the pre-eminent,one of the nine Raaginis, Divine Mothers.

Folk Dance of Gujarat that followed next was the depiction of a sequence of various folk dances of the State, namely, Garba, Raas, Tippani, Sakhi, Gunvanthi Gujarat, etc. by the girl students from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Niketan, Navsari. Girls in dazzling costumes danced vibrantly to the tunes of lively songs presenting an electrifying exhibition of the rich and colourful Gujarati culture.

His Story spanning Yugas is decorated with His unparalleled glory, scripted and directed by HimSelf. In every Yuga, every time, when He chose to descend, and every fractional period in the history of time that followed after His each descend, His Story is equally replete with beautiful tales of greater devotional feats, of His chosen instruments. This evening’s final presentation was on this theme, illustrating anecdotes from the lives of some such blessed souls.

Next half-an-hour witnessed some of the most inspiring, dedicated, devotional tales from the lives of St Thyagaraja, St Paul, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer and St Kukkadaru, a Saint from the Zoroastrian belief. Episodes depicted included St Thyagaraja winning his ‘lost’ Rama, St Paul regaining his eye-sight most ‘miraculously’, Khwaja’s miracle of removing greed of Shaikh Ali and St Kakkudaru’s miracle of ‘golden brick’ worth Rs. 10,000 enabling the completion of a noble construction work.

The presentation by the students of Sri Sathya Sai School, Surat turned out to be a poignant reminder of the beauty of devotion and dedication, faith and surrender to the Supreme Godhood.

Bhajans continued and the session came to a close with Mangala Arathi at 1840 hrs.
