Usha's Dream & Ras Leela - Dance Drama by Children of Assam

At 1700 Hrs, a beautiful Dance drama entitled Usha’s Dream & Ras Leela by Balavikas Children of Assam, was offered at the Divine Lotus Feet, here at Sai Kulwanth hall, Prasanthi Nilayam, this evening.

Usha was a heavenly beautiful princess and the only daughter of demon King Bana, who ruled Tezpur, a beautiful city in the far east of our country, earlier known as Sonitpur. Chitralekha, daughter of a minister, who was adept in painting, magic and dance was a closest friend of Usha. King Bana, who was very much attached to his beautiful daughter, apprehended any harm and kept her under “House Arrest” in a place called ‘Agnigarh’ - surrounded by fire. She was a great devotee of Goddess Bhagawathi.

Goddess Bhagavathi assured Usha in her dreams that she would soon get a handsome prince as her husband. At the request of Usha, Chitralekha portrayed many kings and princes including that of Lord Krishna. The dream boy of Usha was a facsimile of Lord Krishna – named Aniruddh, grandson of Lord Krishna. Chithralekha brought Aniruddha magically into the fort and got him married to Usha secretely. King Bana became furious and arrested Aniruddha.

Knowing the arrest of Aniruddha by Demon King Bana, Lord Krishna prepared for a war with King Bana, who was a worshipper of Lord Shiva. A fierce battle took place between Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva at Sonitpur, known as HARI HARA YUDDHA.

This resulted in a huge bloodshed and death of thousands of Soldiers. This changes the mind of King Bana and formally accepted Anirudda, as his son-in-law.

The dance drama Usha’s dream has been adopted from Late Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s epic drama ‘Sonitkuari’.

Earlier Veda Chanting commenced at 1630 hrs.

Bhajans continued next and Arathi at 1825 Hrs marked the end of the proceedings today.
