South India's famous musical fiesta,Thyagaraja Aradhana,found a new meaning and renewed fulfilment today when an ensemble  musicians from the Mirpuri Music college joined together offering Thyagaraja Pancharatna Krithis rendition at the Kulwant Hall this evening to celebrate the 137th year of the Aradhana.

The first two songs were from the Pancharatnam Kiratanas titled “Sathinjane“ in Raga Aarabhi & “Endero Mahanubhavulu” in Raga Shree, both set to Adi talam. Later they offered two Divyanaam Kirtanas for the first time.One in Raga Yamana Kalyani & the other in Raga Naathanaamkriya both set to Adi Talam.

In the Veena recital offering a kriti “Samajvara Gamana” was presented in Raga Hindolam in Aditalam. But the climax was set in Raga Kalyani “Vasudevayani “ in Aditalam which was followed by a Taaniavartan. The students from Hindustani vocal section also performed and sang along in this traditional carnatic programme.

St.Thyagaraja was one of the foremost exponent of Carnatic Music, born in Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, lived during the period 1767-1847. After mysteriously initiated by Sage Narada who came in the guise of a saint, young Thyagaraja later earned expert training under the tutelage of Govinda Dikshitar.
