The students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning along with students of Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music, presented a musical evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam today, marking the grand finale of the week-long Ramayana Saptaham.
Earlier, the week-long Saptaham, commenced with an overall preview on the topic, Ramayana, by Prof Gangadhar Sastry and was followed by eminent seniors - Sarvasri Bhavani Shankar, K Sridharan, Chelli Janardhanan, Vijaya Sarathi, Vijay Kumar & T Hariharan and musical offerings by the students, daily. This is an annual feature, ahead of Dasara celebrations, at the Institute.
This evening, the programme commenced at 1650 hrs., after regular Rudram chanting, with a brief introduction on the programme. The musical programme that ensued had some of the most beautiful Carnatic compositions on Lord Sri Rama. Beginning with the famous Swathi Thirunal composition “Bhavayami Raghuramam…” graceful students went on singing paeans to Sai Rama with some of the popular Carnatic numbers, “Bhajaman Rama Charan Sukhdai…”, “Sree Ram… Sree Ram…”, “Marivere…”etc. Interspersed with lucid commentary on the efficacy of “Rama… Ramayana…and Sai Rama…” the programme with rich in-house talent turned out to be a rare spiritual feast and a fitting finale for the Ramayana week observance.
An all Rama Bhajan session continued and ended with ‘Thursday Special’ in Divine Golden Voice singing - “Rama Kodanda Rama…”.
Mangala Arathi at 1815 hrs marked the end of the day’s proceedings.
