26th Anniversary Celebrations
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram celebrated its 26th anniversary today. The hospital was inaugurated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba along with the then Prime Minister of India, Sri P V Narsimha Rao on November 22, 1991.
The hospital started with the department of Cardiology and Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery and as the years progressed the department of Urology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics and Gastroenterology (Endoscopy) departments were added.
The hospital has seen around 35 lakh patients across all the specialities and has performed around 2.8 lakh surgeries and procedures completely free of charge irrespective to caste, class, creed, religion or nationality in the past 26 years. The hospital receives almost 700 patients in a day across all departments.
As a part of the celebration, the hospital staff organized a bhajan in the early morning hours in the prayer hall of the hospital on Wednesday. Dr. C. Ventakeshwar Rao, the Vice Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rao said that said that he felt blessed to be in the hospital which in his words was, “an abode of peace and tranquility and thanked Bhagawan Baba for giving him the opportunity to visit the hospital.
Observing that the staff of the hospital were the most precious resource Dr. Rao mentioned their service with devotion was an invisible and invincible ingredient which acted as an elixir or relief to the humanity. “ In dedication you give what you have and what you can. In devotion you give yourself. So any work is automatically converted to a prayer of devotion. With devotion one is endowed with concentration, love, bliss and happiness,”Dr. Rao added.
The programme ended with Mangala Aarti to Bhagawan Baba.
