Sri Sathya Sai Orthopaedic Conference -2016

Total Hip Replacement: Present and Future

Prasanthigram   23rd &  24th July 2016

The "Sri Sathya Sai Orthopaedic Conference-2016",  on Total Hip Replacement: “Present and Future”, continued on the second day on Sunday 24th July 2016, at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram.

The morning session started with  two live surgical demonstration of complex,  total hip replacement surgeries and was followed by topics such as Managing bone defects in Total Hip Replacement, Hip Reconstructions in Pelvic Discontinuities, Total Hip Replacement for Tuberculosis: Challenges and Solutions and the Future of Total Hip Replacement among others. The conference also featured a special symposium on Avascular Necrosis of Femoral Head which is a debilitating disease.

The conference was attended by around 100 delegates from all across India.

Expressing his opinion about the conference, Dr Jim Sullivan, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon from Macquaire University, Sydney Australia, said that the topics discussed in the conference were comprehensive and therefore covered several aspects of Total Hip Replacement. Dr Jim Sullivan who is visiting the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, for the second time for a conference said that he loved the conference, which he attended last year and therefore loved to attend the current conference. Asked about his opinion about the hospital, Dr Sullivan said the hospital exuded a friendly, caring and respectful aura towards the patients and called the concept of free healthcare to all by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba a ‘great ideal’ for people to follow.

Faculty members Dr. Ramesh Sen, Director Fortis Hospital, Chandigarh, Dr. Rakesh Gupta and  Dr. N.K Magu, from Postgraduate Medical Institute, Rohtak, Haryana, when asked to express their opinion about their experience about the hospital, were of the opinion that the real meaning of the adage “Service to Man is Service to God” can be learnt only after coming to a place like SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram and understanding the work being done by the hospital for the care of the patients.

A delegate,  Dr Madhukesh, Orthopaedic surgeon, from Bangalore said that the content was complete and comprehensive in all aspects. “The conference here is not like any other conference we have attended anywhere else. We have gained a lot of knowledge in these two days, and would like to attend such conferences again and again,” he said. Talking about the hospital Dr Madhukesh said that the hospital felt like a temple where patients would come and get healed. “This hospital is imbued with divinity”, he added.

Dr. Rahul Saini from Jaipur, Rajasthan mentioned that the live surgical demonstration helped him to understand the nuances of the Total Hip Replacement and therefore it was the highlight of the conference and the lectures were highly educative. Dr Rahul added that he would definitely like to visit the hospital again in future if a similar conference was held.
