Reports have appeared in a section of the Press implying that the Sathya Sai Trust have issued orders to collect Rs. 33 Crores as user fees from the consumers in the completed water project supplying water for 731 villages. The above report is totally incorrect, untrue and completely contrary to facts.
Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust had executed a drinking water project in the year 1995 for provision of drinking water to 731 villages in Anantapur District.
The water project, after successful supply of water to the villages, was handed over to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Govt. in turn, constituted the Sri Sathya Sai Water Supply Board for Anantapur with District Collector as Chairman, Superintendent Engineer, Rural Water Supply as Member Secretary and many other officials of District, as members. The Board is entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the drinking water projects in the district. The expenditure for the maintenance of the project will have to be borne in the ratio of 70:30 by the Government and Panchayats. Government may get a grant from Government of India and Panchayats may collect user charges from the users in the villages.
Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust neither collected any charges from the users or Panchayats or Governments so far, nor have they intention to collect in future. In fact, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust is presently executing another water supply project costing about Rs. 80 Crores to supply drinking water to another 118 habitations in Anantapur district which will also be handed over to Government after ensuring successful continuous supply to the villages. And for this project also no fee or cost will be collected by the Sathya Sai Central Trust.
Any contrary report published by any newspaper or individual will be considered mischievous and malicious.
